Principal's Welcome
Welcome to our website. The core values of Our Lady of Victories Primary School, Shortland, are based in that Jesus Christ lived among us as a symbol of truth and gave us all an example to follow. As we grow, we search for truth in all we do, say and feel. Our mission is to educate children truthfully, with Jesus as our focus, so they achieve their potential through a partnership of home, parish and school.
We achieve our mission by ensuring teachers are well prepared and resourced, children are happy and cared for, and parents are consulted and involved. The use of technology is a focus in our teaching and learning.
Our Lady of Victories school is part of the Wallsend-Shortland parish and was originally staffed by the Sisters of St Joseph. The school was officially opened in 1957 and strives to be authentically Catholic through the development of the relationship within the parish and community. Our Lady of Victories is a place of interaction spiritually, socially and academically for children, parents and members of the wider community. We are inclusive in our enrolment and value greatly the interaction we share with our special needs children.
Our school actively participates in local community events and supports charities such as St Vincent de Paul and Catholic Mission through liturgies, educational experiences and fundraising activities. Our school community is currently sponsoring two children from a developing nation in their education. We support the local RSL at the Anzac Day Dawn Service and conduct our own service, which many of the local diggers attend.
Our beautiful grounds and gardens give the children plenty of room to run around safely and our community hall has recently been completed. We have a small nursery supplying native plants for the local Landcare group and our children are regularly involved in the rehabilitation of the local creek. We are close to the Shortland Wetlands Educational Centre and the Newcastle University. Results from NAPLAN are strong and indicate successful teaching and learning.
Students of Our Lady of Victories Primary School, Shortland are encouraged to continue their Catholic education by attending San Clemente High School, Mayfield.
