TELL THEM FROM ME

tell_them.png

Thanks to all the families that have responded in the TELL THEM FROM ME  Survey. We will be able to glean a lot of data from your responses and work towards providing an even better setting and experience for your children to learn. To date we have had 30 of our families respond but there is still time to have your say. The survey closes at 4:30pm today. Go to this link and tell us from you.

SEMESTER REPORTS

school_report.jfifParents will have access to the end of Semester reports from 4pm on Friday 28 June. During the week prior, parents will be able to book a time to discuss the report with your child and their teacher on Friday 5 July. These 3-way interviews are a great way to get a clear picture of where your child is at and to set some targets for them for the remainder of the year.

YEAR 6 JERSEYS

yeasr_6_jersey.JPG

The Year 6 Jerseys will be arriving soon and will be available for $50. Please go to QKR to make your purchase. The Year 6 Fun Day in Term 3 will be subsiding the cost of these.

Naidoc Week Assembly/Liturgy & Activity

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week 2024 is celebrated July  7-14. This falls in our Winter school holidays, so OLV will be celebrating on Friday Week 1 Term 3 (July 19th).

The theme this year is Blak, Loud and Proud.

All children are asked to come dressed in black, yellow, red, blue or green (or a combination of) in support of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in our communities, both near and far.

On this day at 1:50pm we will start with an Assembly in the hall which the Aboriginal Education students will present. We will then filter down to the COLA until home time, where we will form a community and participate in a special activity for the whole school. All parents/grandparents/visitors are welcome to attend one, both or all of these celebrations. Our grand afternoon will wrap up at 2:55pm when the bell goes.

We look forward to seeing you there.

SAVE THE DATE: 19/7/24

OLV Sleep Out

Last night we had 44 children from primary sleep in our school hall to have some experience of what it would feel like to be homeless. We had John Setz from St Vicent de Paul come and talk to the children about how the money raised by the children would help the local people in the Wallsend Parish. Thank you John for taking the time to do this the children were very engaged in what you were telling them and had some great questions.

A big thank you to Miss Payton and Mr Vandermaat for sleeping over we could not have had this event without your help. Thank you also to Mr & Mrs Fren, Mrs McCallum and Miss Jones for helping feed the children breakfast and allowing myself, Miss Payton and Mr V to have some time to get ready for the day ahead.

We had two children in our school community who decided to do some extra fundraising. Thank you Ariana S for raising an extra $30 and thank you Josie B for raising an extra $70.

For lunch we had a sausage sizzle which Year 5 and Mrs Dengate helped prepare. Then we had all staff assist in handing out the sausages for lunch. It is days like this that we see Jesus within in all our staff and students helping to raise money for the less fortunate.

I would like to acknowledge and send out a huge thank you to Mrs Fry who ordered the food for both days and collected the permission notes and money. You do so much behind the scenes. THANK YOU.

Friday Mass

This morning Kindergarten and Year 4 went to mass in their PJ's. Fr Christo was very impressed to find out that 44 primary students and  three teachers slept in our school hall overnight. He was so proud of our school for taking the time to help fundraise for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.

Cup Cake Day Fundraiser

cupcake.jfif

I would like to have one more fundraiser for St Vincent de Paul this term. I was hoping that we could organise a Cup Cake Day Wednesday 3rd July. For this to be a success I need parents who would be willing to cook cup cakes and send them in for us to sell. If you are able to help out, could you please send me an email so I have some idea of how many cup cakes we will have. My email is patricia.dunn@mn.catholic.edu.au

EXTERNAL PROVIDERS

Visitors.jpeg

If your child will be seeing a provider (e.g. speech therapist or occupational therapist) this year at school, please complete the attached application form and return to school. If you require further information, please don't hesitate to contact the office.

COMPASS

compass_button.png

OLV uses the "Compass" App.  Log in details for parents/carers have been emailed to all new parents.  If you are still unable to login, or your account has been made inactive, please contact Leanne in the office to arrange a reset of your password.

  • For all new families please familiarise yourself with the information booklet you received in your information pack or enrolment pack, "Parent Portal Compass User Guide" This is also attached

  • Only Parents/Carers have access to Compass Parent Portal.  Parents must have separate email addresses in order to both have access to compass
  • New Users when logging into Compass are given the opportunity to update their details.  It has been noted that some parents have updated their mobile phone number by taking out the gaps within the phone number.  This is not required.  The system requires phones numbers to be in this format
  • REMINDER: PLEASE ONLY EXPLAIN WHOLE DAY ABSENCES - PLEASE DO NOT REPORT PARTIAL ABSENCES through the Compass App.  Reporting partial absences will cause inconsistences with your child's attendance
  • SMS's are sent to parents of students who are absent from 9.35am each weekday morning.  You will receive a text message if your child was not present during the marking the roll process.  Please logon onto compass and explain your child's absence.  Do not reply to the text as compass does not accept reply texts
  • Please notify the office beforehand if your child is going to arrive late; you will however still receive an SMS.  The arrival time of the student will be logged as an explained absence when they present to school on their arrival
  • On occasion you may be sent a text message even though your child is in attendance at school, this may be because they have arrived late and not come to the Office for sign in.  If your child is late, please come into the Office with your child and sign them in via the compass kiosk.

QKR APP

qkr_pos_300X300_1_.jpeg

Part of “progress” is moving towards a cashless society. To assist with the banking, ordering and handling of money, we are moving more of our payments to the Qkr system.

You will find attached instructions for the QKR App.  This easy to use phone app gives you the flexibility to place orders for Canteen and fundraisers from your phone.  It also reduces the need for your child to bring cash to school.  Please remember to amend your child's year group on the QKR App to aid the timely collection of their order. We will be moving to a wider usage of this app as the year progresses.

Health Care Card

Most families have already completed the attached Health Care Card Forms and returned to the school with a copy of their Health Care Card.  If you have a Health Care Card and have not handed it in please contact the Office.  Health Care Cards gives up to 50% off your tuition fees.

      ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

A reminder that our postponed Athletics Carnival will be taking place on Thursday next week (20 June). Unless there are any changes since our original date, children will stay in the same event (the changes have been noted). We will commence the carnival about 9:45am and should be finished around 1:30pm. We will be stopping lunch at around 11:30am. A BBQ sausage sizzle and fruit juice is available for lunch - those that have already ordered last time do not need to do so again. If you missed out on ordering last time, QKR is open for more orders. There will be NO other canteen facilities available on the day. So children will need to bring their own water or snacks.

The children will be travelling to and from the carnival by bus. If you wish to take your children home, then don't forget to sign them out with their teacher at the conclusion of the carnival. No children should leave before the end of the carnival.

We are still looking for a few more helpers - 6 would be great. Please let Mr Watmore know.

We would like to wish the following children a Happy Birthday.
